The inclement weather has forced the cancellation of tonight's Great Southern Showdown event for Sprintcars at Geelong's Avalon Raceway. Heavy rain overnight has been welcome for the region however it has severely hampered racing this weekend. |

Geelong’s Avalon Raceway will make the most of this weekend’s Labour Day holiday with close to 40 Sprintcars set to contest the Great Southern Showdown on Sunday night, March 7. The $5,000 to win event has attracted some of the sports biggest names including perennial favourite Robbie Farr also track specialist and December World Series Sprintcars round victor David Murcott. Talented 20 year old Northern Territory ace James McFadden will also tackle the best drivers from Victoria and South Australia on Sunday night. |

New South Wales second generation racer Nathan Smee captured his first Australian Speedcar Championship on Saturday night at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway when he outlasted a stellar field during a dramatic 40 lap final. Smee’s victory was the first by an Australian driver in the past five years as he broke the domination of the American’s in the 69th running of the Australian Speedcar Championship. |

With the tension mounting as the 69th Australian Speedcar Championship at Avalon Raceway quickly approach’s you could be forgiven for thinking that Kevin Swindell’s title defence would be stressful enough. Spare a thought for car owner Steven Graham who has been battling red tape and bureaucratic bungling at its finest as he tried unsuccessfully to freight Swindell’s title winning Speedcar back from New Zealand following a recent tour. |

Ex pat Victorian now New South Wales based Mark Brown turned in arguably one of the finest performances ever seen by a driver in Speedcar racing last weekend in Warrnambool when he won round 8 of the Speedcar Super Series. Starting the final from position 18 on the grid Brown stormed through the classy field to eventually take the lead four laps from the finish of the 30 lap A-main. Carrying race winning form into this weekends 69th Australian Speedcar Championship at Avalon Raceway is a positive thing for one of the sentimental favourites. |

The countdown has begun to the biggest weekend in Australian Speedcar racing when the 69th Australian Championship will be decided this Friday and Saturday night. Close to 50 of the finest Speedcar drivers will converge on Avalon Raceway for what promises to be a massive week culminating with Saturday night’s 40 lap Championship final. Defending champion is the 20 year old American sensation Kevin Swindell who is looking for back to back title wins to add to his recent Chili Bowl Indoor Championship win in Oklahoma against 265 of the worlds best drivers. |

20-year-old American superstar and reigning Australian Speedcar Champion Kevin Swindell heads the list of nominations set to contest the 2010 edition of the championship to be decided at Geelong's Avalon Raceway on February 19 and 20. Swindell added to his already impressive record when he recently won the 2010 Chili Bowl, an indoor Speedcar event in Oklahoma that attracted over 265 entries with Swindell becoming the youngest ever winner in the 24 years of the famous event. |
